Brian Flaherty named Head Coach of Cross Country

Elder High School and its Athletic Department are pleased to announce the promotion of Brian Flaherty to Head Men’s Cross Country Coach.  Brian is also the Head Coach of Track and Field and an Assistant Principal at Elder High School.  He replaces legendary coach Steve Spencer, who retired this past season after 46 years leading “The Purple Pack”.

Coach Flaherty has been an Assistant Cross Country Coach at Elder since 2007.  Prior to returning to his alma mater in ‘07, Brian was the Head Cross Country and Track coach at Boone Country High School from 1999 to 2006.

Coach Flaherty’s statement on being named Elder’s new leader of the Purple Pack,   I am very honored and excited to be the head coach at my alma mater. To follow in the footsteps of a legend, Coach Steve Spencer, is very exciting for me.  Coach Spencer is the reason I am where I am today and I hope to make him proud as we continue the traditions of Elder Cross Country.  I am looking forward to building on what we have already accomplished and continue to improve the program and move it forward.
